As I am starting to write this article, I'm quite sure that a portion of the readers are not going to agree with me, but ignoring that for the time being , I believe this is an important topic that deserves our attention. So, to start with the title, how can two words be more contradicting, shouldn't toxic and positivity remain on opposite ends of the spectrum. Well...no, it turns out that not only is this an actual issue but most of us might have already experienced it multiple times.Think of that one time, when you were extremely sad and there was possibly nothing you could have done about the situation and someone tells you to not worry about it or when you failed at something and your mentor told you failure is not an option, will that really make a difference? That's it, that's the simplest way you can define toxic positivity.
So where exactly did we all pick up this habit?(don't act like you haven't done it) and is this even an actual issue or is it some gen-z kids cooking up something to seem smart? As I mentioned in my previous post, I consider anything that destroys our own or another person's mental, physical or emotional health as a serious issue. From my point of view, what toxic positivity does is that it caps our emotions. Due to this, we are always pressured to be in a state of happiness and positivity no matter what our inner emotions are. This then leads us to being in a constant state of low, we feel we are not doing things right because everyone else seems happy all the time, but what we don't understand is most others are going through the exact same thing as you are;putting on a mask. When this happens over a course of time, the pressure that was built up earlier causes us to explode. What can we do to make the situation better? I couldn't possibly give you a simpler answer, this is what life is, you cannot always be happy, imagine how boring it would be if it was like that and imagine how pathetic it is to act that way, all you have to do is express what you feel and experience everything the way it is.
This is so good and definitely a topic that needs to be talked about. It's great of you to shed light on it. More power to you 🙌
ReplyDeleteThis was an absolutely amazing topic to talk about. The need to be happy, or at least to appear happy, has been constantly drilled into our heads. Your blog made me realize that this needs to change. You completely made my day. Keep writing, and don't ever stop.
